Is there anyone in the World not recognizing an image with the Eiffel Tower? I think that this probability is lower than winning at lottery. It was built in 1889 and was the main attraction for the World Fair organized by Paris in 1989. It was hated at the beginning but now we can stay for hours at very long lines for tickets. It is still enormous and can be seen from many points in Paris. I have seen it a few years ago when I and my friends went there at night to see it with all those flickering blue lights and it was quite a show. The tower is the most-visited paid monument in the world and it is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. The tower stands 320 meters tall. During its construction, the Eiffel Tower surpassed the Washington Monument to assume the title of the tallest man-made structure in the world, a title it held for 41 years, until the Chrysler Building in New York City was built in 1930. I also love the card that I have, sure I have many more with it, but the one I choose it is the most beautiful to me.

The Château that Rises Above the Loire Valley

I was visiting the Loire Valley back in 2008 and it is for sure one of the greatest places in the World. From back then I love to travel and visit castles and palaces. One of my favorite places was Château d'Amboise. It is built on a hill near the Loire. You have to walk up the hill and there is that beautiful and pretty unique castle. The chapel of Saint-Hubert is gorgeous and very ornate and there is buried the genius of geniuses Leonardo da Vinci but I only found that today when searching info about the castle – the pressure of the time and because me and my friends were in a real hurry to see as many castles as we can, we just saw but not read many info. The gargoyles are amazing and you can take photos of them because for of the placements of the castle they are really near you.

Château d'Amboise was built on a promontory overlooking the Loire River. The castle began its life in the eleventh century, when the Count of Anjou, rebuilt the stronghold in stone. In 1434 it was seized by Charles VII of France, because its owner, Louis d'Amboise, was convicted of plotting against Louis XI. However, the king pardoned him but took his chateau at Amboise. It then became the favorite of the French monarchs. It was rebuilt in the French late Gothic Flamboyant style by Charles VIII in the 15th century. A few years later the king decided to add some of the first Renaissance decorative motifs. King Francis I was raised at Amboise, which belonged to his mother, Louise of Savoy, and during the first few years of his reign the château reached the pinnacle of its glory. As a guest of the King, Leonardo da Vinci came to Château Amboise in December 1515 and lived and worked in the nearby Clos Lucé, connected to the château by an underground passage. Tourists are told that he is buried in the Chapel of Saint-Hubert, adjoining the Château, which had been built in 1491–96.
Henry II and his wife, Catherine de' Medici, raised their children in Château Amboise along with Mary Stuart, the child Queen of Scotland who had been promised in marriage to the future French Francis II. Amboise conspiracy was a conspiracy by members of the Huguenot House of Bourbon against the House of Guise, in 1560, during the French Wars of Religion. Although there, was signed the peace of Amboise in 1563, between Louis I de Bourbon, Prince de Condé, who had been implicated in the conspiracy to abduct the king, and Catherine de' Medici. The "edict of pacification", as it was termed, authorized Protestant services only in chapels of seigneurs and justices, with the stipulation that such services be held outside the walls of towns. Neither side was not satisfied by this compromise, nor was it widely honored. At the beginning of the 17th century, the huge château was all but abandoned when the property passed into the hands of Gaston d'Orleans, the brother of the Bourbon King Louis XIII. After his death it returned to the Crown and was turned into a prison during the Fronde, and under Louis XIV of France it held disgraced minister Nicolas Fouquet and the duc de Lauzun. Louis XV made a gift of it to his minister the duc de Choiseul. During the French Revolution, the greater part of the château was demolished, a great deal more destruction was done, and an engineering assessment commissioned by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in the early 19th century resulted in a great deal of the château having to be demolished. King Louis-Philippe began restoring it during his reign but with his abdication in 1848, the château was confiscated by the government and became for a while the home in exile to Emir Abd Al-Qadir. In 1873, Louis-Philippe’s heirs were given control of the property and a major effort to repair it was made. However, during the German invasion in 1940 the château was damaged further. Since 1840, the Château d'Amboise has been listed as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture. Today, the present Comte de Paris, descendant of Louis-Philippe, repairs and maintains the château through the Fondation Saint-Louis.

Une multitude de sites et paysages en la Vallée de la Dordogne

I just have watched the documentary Little England made by ITV in UK and I’m in love with that gorgeous part of France called Dordogne. I’m not the only one in love because there live around 20.000. Brits because they wanted to escape the overcrowded and so expensive Britain.

Château de Castelnaud-la-Chapelle is a medieval castle which dates to the 13th century. It was an important point in the Hundred Years' War but after that was abandoned bit by bit and only in modern times it is a beautiful medieval war warfare museum.

Château de Beynac was built in the 12th century by the barons of Beynac and in the times of the Hundred Years' War it belonged to France. On the other side of the river Dordogne was England and Château de Castelnaud-la-Chapelle was theirs. This castle was used in movie Jeanne d'Arc by Luc Besson and the picturesque town of Beynac was the setting for Chocolat directed by Lasse Hallström.

In the lower left corner of the postcard is the beautiful city of La Roque-Gageac which is included in the list Les Plus Beaux Villages de France.

Tocmai ce am urmărit documentarul Little England, realizat de ITV, şi m-am îndrăgostit de o superbă zonă din Franţa. De fapt nu sunt singurul îndrăgostit de Dordogne, pentru că acolo s-au mutat aproximativ 20.000. de englezi care şi-au vândut proprietăţile din Regat şi au căutat ceva mai mult. Ceva mai multă libertate, teren, natură – pentru că Marea Britanie este supraaglomerată şi extrem de scumpă. Franţa şi Marea Britanie au aproximativ aceeaşi populaţie dar Marea Britanie este de trei ori mai mică.

Château de Castelnaud-la-Chapelle este un castel medieval, atestat documentar din secolul al XIII-lea, a avut un rol important în războiul de o sută de ani, a rămas uitat şi s-a distrus în timp, dar a înflorit în vremurile noastre fiind un frumos muzeu de obiecte de război medievale.

Château de Beynac a fost construit în secolul al XII-lea de baronii de Beynac şi în timpul războiului de o sută de ani aparţinea francezilor, în timp ce Dordogne era la graniţa cu Anglia şi Château de Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, situat pe celălalt mal al râului, aparţinea englezilor. Castelul a fost locaţie în filmul Jeanne d'Arc al lui Luc Besson, iar pitorescul orăşel Beynac a fost locul acţiunii filmului Chocolat, regizat de Lasse Hallström.

În colţul din stânga-jos al vederii se află idilicul orăşel La Roque-Gageac, inclus în lista Les Plus Beaux Villages de France.

Aquæductum struxerant Romani

If you plan to travel to southern part of France, don’t just take sun baths and drink beers, take a trip to find beautiful sites of that part of the World. Today I want to suggest you to take a visit to the beautiful Pont du Gard, a bridge which is part of a 50 km long roman aqueduct. It is three tiers of arches, an architecture masterpiece built to transport water, 200 million liters (44 million gallons) every day. It was erected in the first century AD by the Romans and it was used until the 9th century. At almost 50 meters is the highest of all Roman aqueduct bridges. From 1985 it is part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Today it is one of the most visited places in France; actually it is in top five. I have a postcard and also a beautiful Italian stamp that represents Pont du Gard.

Deja sunt reduceri la biletele de avion spre Nisa (Nice), Côte d'Azur pentru cei care merg la mare, Provence pentru cei care şi citesc. Ar fi frumos când ajungem acolo să ajungem şi la locurile care contează cu adevărat. Azi vă sugerez unul din ele: Pont du Gard, un pod parte dintr-un apeduct roman lung de 50 km. El are trei etaje construite peste râul Gard, o minune arhitectonică destinată transportului de apă, 200 milioane de litri zilnic. A fost construit în primul secol al erei noastre şi a fost folosit pentru apă până în secolul al IX-lea. La aproape 50 metri este cel mai înalt dintre apeductele romane. Din 1985 este inclus în lista Patrimoniului UNESCO. În zilele noastre, Pont du Gard este unul din primele cinci cele mai vizitate obiective ale Franţei, aşa că merită să daţi o fugă până acolo. Pe lângă vederea abia primită, mai am şi un timbru italian dedicat sitului.

Dream to Travel

AH, how I love to travel! The number one on my wish list is Cap d’Agde in France. It is known as the world’s only Naked City. It’s actually an elaborate beach resort with a very large shopping mall inside. Everybody from Senegalese to Mexicans troop there as long as they are nudists and as long as they can afford to strip without inhibition.

Another of my fantasy during holidays is to reside on a luxury ship which can go around the world. There are two such ships in existence that I know. In fact, there are permanent residents on the ship while others rent as guests.
